The McKinney Boyd High School Color Guard would like to welcome you to our growing family here at McKinney Boyd
High School. We hope you are eager to begin your journey as a freshman in one of the finest schools in the State of Texas.
When MBHS opened in 2006, the directors of the band and the administration created and established the very first ever
color guard program at MBHS, and it has been growing ever since. The color guard is an organization for high school
students who have a desire in learning the performing and visual arts. It is the fastest growing sport in the today's high
schools. The color guard is a sophisticated dance team, and is a blend of all the world’s artistic elements. It incorporates
music, art, dance, theater, and drama; all this with the additional use of several varieties of equipment that include
flags, rifles, and sabers. This is why color guard is widely referred to as the “Sport of the Arts”
Our organization is an extension of the MBHS Band Program. The ladies of the guard perform with the Marching Band
during the football season in the fall semester. We accompany the band to all football games, parades, pep rallies, and
competitions. The color guard is an exceptionally important aspect in the marching band performance, providing the
musical color and general effect to the competitive programs. During the spring semester, the guard enters their own
competition season, which we call winter guard. The ladies are taught a unique and elaborate visual show that is
performed upon a laid out stage with colorful flags, backdrops, and other forms of equipment. A winter guard show can be
likened to that of a Broadway production or a ballet. Like what you would observe on a marching field, the guard will
perform dazzling movements and expressive equipment routines all in conjunction to a moving soundtrack. Those who
witness a guard show first hand thoroughly enjoys the brilliant exhibit of liveliness and passion from our performers.
The color guard is an incredibly unique dance team that has seen strong growth in students and popularity within
McKinney Boyd High School. Our mission is to continually offer the finest quality education to our students in all facets of
color guard, and to impart understanding in the values of teamwork, self-discipline, commitment, and hard work. We
encourage our members to always strive for excellence, and to continuously improve themselves in their advancing
education in color guard. We instill the values of leadership with numerous opportunities for our ladies to advance as
leaders in the program. Along with an artistic education, our ladies understand the importance of responsibility, setting
goals, motivation, and integrity before they receive their diploma. Values and education are the traits we find essential
while being a member of our program. We have many gifted students who excel in various subjects and are academically
superior throughout the school. We believe a fine arts education plays an immense role in the academic success of our
students.
The Color Guard program is blessed to have to such exceptional and amazing students. Many of our members develop
lifelong enduring friendships. It is truly a team environment where we instill that only collectively will we succeed. The
social impact color guard has on a young person’s life is very rewarding. The color guard is a sisterhood and a family.
Together the members are committed to continually improving their skills. It is the thrill of performing and the lasting
friendships that truly makes our activity great. We are a wonderful organization to grow as a dancer, student, and a
